Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Kenneth R. Freeman (Ret.) has joined its panel. Judge Freeman joins JAMS following a distinguished career of over 35 years on the bench in Los Angeles County.
During his time on the Superior Court from 1994 to 2025, Judge Freeman spent 14 years overseeing individual calendar cases and 13 years as a complex civil litigation judge in Los Angeles County—one of only 10 judges entrusted with that role across the Los Angeles Superior Court system. He managed some of California’s most significant and challenging litigation. His docket included mass torts cases, wage and hour and consumer class actions, toxic contamination lawsuits and complex insurance coverage disputes involving multiple layers of liability.
Based in the Los Angeles Resolution Center, Judge Freeman will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and court appointed neutral (referee/special master), handling business and commercial, class actions and mass torts, construction, eminent domain and inverse condemnation, employment, insurance, and sexual abuse and misconduct matters. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country and internationally.
“We are honored to welcome Judge Freeman to JAMS. With more than three decades of distinguished judicial service, he brings a remarkable breadth of legal knowledge and a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach. We are looking forward to seeing him excel in this new role.”
Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president
Judge Freeman also served on the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1990 to 1994, including an assignment as supervising judge of the San Fernando Branch. He presided over civil and criminal jury and court trials, felony preliminary hearings, law and motion matters, and mandatory settlement conferences. Before his appointment to the bench, he was a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County, where he prosecuted cases involving bribery, corruption, official misconduct and crimes committed by police officers.
“Details can mean the difference between victory and defeat. A single overlooked fact can unravel a case. A lawyer who masters the details has an unshakable advantage over one who relies on broad strokes and assumptions,” said Judge Freeman.
Judge Freeman earned his B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles and his J.D. from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.
